Dear Kimberley, Margaret, and Tara,
This week you’ve given the magic of three.
A mystical combination of nature, words, and peace.
I’ve soaked up daily gifts of food, laugher, and kindness.
Thank you, dear teacher writer friends.
Love,
Julieanne
Bedlam Bounty
Light climbs and cuts
the mountain mist.
Dew coats my feet
and I wait for warmth.
High above
wildflower bouquets sprinkle
the tall grass.
Coveting the color
I reach and pull to the table
dignified Queen Anne beauties
the daylilies seize up protesting their importation
from the field to the vase.
Afternoon sounds soothe.
The fans whir, chimes join the trees’ rustle,
an intermittent tree frog
punctuates a soft breeze
and shadows lengthen memories I take home.

I love the way you captured the spirit of Old Bedlam Farm and the amazing week we’ve had. Many thanks, my friend.
Your pictures and your words capture this place so beautifully. Our special time together will sustain me. Your friendship is such a gift. Thanks.
Beautiful photos! I especially like all those sounds, and “shadows lengthen memories I take home.”
I also love the line, “and shadows lengthen memories I take home.” Beautiful photos and such a wonderful sense of peace and place in your poems. Thanks for sharing!
… and that’s 3 for “and shadows lengthen memories I take home.” I can feel the peace you experienced… thank you!
Another vote for shadows, and a smile for the tree frog as well. 🙂
Guess I’m an echo here, Julieanne. Love all that you shared, and “shadows lengthen memories I take home”. Gorgeous.
Thank you for your post about the Old Bedlam Farm. I love the sense of peace and home-coming I got from reading it.
The last lines of your last stanza are my favorite. Love those shadows that stretch out your memories!
[…] a great gift. This week I went to Old Bedlam Farm in Upstate New York. I wrote. Find it here and here. I took it in. The sights, sounds, tastes are full bodied. So far removed from city life. […]
Julieanne, your poem is a beautiful, “mystical combination of nature, words, and peace.” I know you will treasure those memories of your time on the farm.
I get such a wonderful sense of your time spent there in this poem. Loved the images – especially “daylilies seize up protesting their importation
from the field to the vase”.
