I’m celebrating National Poetry Month by writing and reading poetry, every day. My poetry project is grows out of a list of things that make me happy. I made this list on the 30th of March.
The nineteenth idea on my list is red wine with pasta and pizza.
the
rich red
berry
scent
couples
with
stretched
cheese
caught
and
licked
off
fingers
that
grasp the glass
tumbler
piles of pasta
serve as chaperone
insisting upon
a napkin
and
civility
is restored

I really like the circle of the first stanza–starting with wine, shifting to pizza and the way you connect them to come back to wine. I also really like how the tone of the second stanza shifts so much that it really feels like a coming back to civility.
Oh, yummy! What a delicious post. I can just taste that pizza now with these lines:
“stretched
cheese
caught
and
licked
off
fingers”
I may be ordering a pizza tonight, but this poem as a skinny is hilarious considering the topic! I love “serve as chaperone”!
Your images and word choice are exquisite! I had to laugh at the chaperone too. 🙂
Civility restored with a napkin made me laugh. Love this poem and the playfulness of your dinner and wine. Sounds delicious!
Such a delicious poem! I love stretched cheese and the pasta as the chaperone!
I am grateful that my palate has shifted with age and I am able to drink and enjoy red wine. Definitely one of the pleasures of life…along with the pizza and pasta!
